Steall Falls, also known as An Steall Bàn, is a stunning waterfall located in Glen Nevis, near Fort William in the Scottish Highlands. It’s the second highest waterfall in Scotland, with a total drop of 120 meters. The waterfall is formed by the River Nevis, which flows down from the mountains and cascades over the edge of a steep cliff.  Steall Falls is particularly impressive after heavy rain as this is when the falls are at their most powerful.

The hike to Steall Falls is considered moderate to difficult, as it involves crossing a narrow wire bridge over the River Nevis and hiking along a steep and rocky path. Proper hiking boots and clothing are recommended.

How To Access

To access the waterfall, visitors can take a hiking trail that starts at the Upper Glen Nevis car park. The trail is around 2.48 miles long and takes around 1-2 hours to complete, depending on your fitness level. The hike is considered moderate to difficult, as it involves crossing a narrow wire bridge over the River Nevis and hiking along a steep and rocky path.

The car parking is free of charge but it can get busy, especially at peak times of the year.

What Is The Association With Harry Potter Films?

One of the many reasons this waterfall is loved is because it was used as a filming location in the movie “Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.” In the film, the waterfall is featured in a scene where Harry and his friends Ron and Hermione attend the Quidditch World Cup. Harry Potter fans (Potterheads) from all over the world have visited to get a glimpse of the location.
